Orca

3D printed in PLA — filed & painted

Finished hand-painted PLA orca sculpture

Overview

An articulated PLA orca — 3D printed, sanded, filed, and hand-painted. A maker-space weekend project from slicer to finish.

It came off the printer bright purple because I forgot to swap the filament. Painted over it anyway.

Print

Sliced in PrusaSlicer on an Original Prusa MINI — 0.20mm SPEED profile, Generic PLA, 10% infill, supports everywhere, and a brim for bed adhesion.

Sanding & paint

Sanded down layer lines while rewatching Silicon Valley.

Filed the tight spots, then hand-painted black and white over the purple base until it actually looked like an orca.
